Luna's Story
Our Luna Petunia inspired me to start teaching pet first aid and CPR. In July 2019, Luna experienced a sudden seizure. At the emergency vet we found out she had insulinoma, a cancer in the pancreas causing excessive insulin and thus eating up her blood sugar. She was a good candidate for surgery, and was only seven. At the time it felt right. We fed her anything we could get her to eat... baby food, scrambled eggs, lean ground beef, blueberry treats, cheese... and her sugar rarely rose above 40 on a good day. (If you're unaware, dog blood sugar should be similar to humans at 80-120.)
In December - six months later - she crossed the Rainbow Bridge.
I thank my years of first aid training in helping me recognize her illness and how to help her as best as possible. I'm not a vet, but I do have a lot of experience with pet.. and human... emergencies. If I can pass any of that on to other pet parents to help until a vet can arrive, I know Luna would be proud.
